Go and Proclaim: GC XVIII Transmission to Stella Maris Academy of Davao

November 4, 2019

The SMAD Educative community had a session with the Congregadas namely Sister Leoly Quitorio, FI , Sister Patricia Anna Aragon, FI and Sister Emelinda Falsis, FI being the Provincial Superior of the Indico – Pacific province. It was held at the school AVR from 1:00 – 4:00 in the afternoon.

The session tackled about the transmission of the congregadas to the lay collaborators of the Hijas de Jesus Congregation. For the first time, the congregation, created a document for the lay collaborators entitled Calls in Apostolic Action: To Go and Proclaim.

The session consisted of a substantial recap of the GCXVIII experience in Rome; a general overview of the document; and group discussions on the stipulated calls in Apostolic Action.

The group discussions were rich with reflections, insights, and questions all focused on the thirteen points presented in the document which revolve around care for our common home, youth engagement and empowerment, attention to the plights of migrant and refugees, common discernment, and fraternity in the Spirit.

In summary, the family is grateful, overwhelmed and energized to collaborate with the Hijas de Jesus. Most would like to improve on spiritual discernment which is prevalent in all the parts of the document and which can be applied in various levels and types of endeavors. Some would like to be clarified on how to be better equipped to reach out to migrants and refugees, and better yet to restore dignity to the least of our brothers and sisters in the community.

There is an urgency to respond foremost to the restoration and preservation of our common home and to making this call more personal for everyone in the community. The youth is acknowledged to become a part of the solutions to these global concerns, to harness their creativity and innovativeness with guidance and develop sense of purpose with values. With this, the teachers’ roles as second parents and mentors following the steps of Christ the Great Teacher has never been more pronounced.

As educators and collaborators, we are called to listen, discern and respond to transform society burdened with the problems of our time. Just like the Samaritan woman renewed in her encounter with Christ the Living Water, we pray to be constantly renewed as a family in our commitment to reenergize and renew lives with the charism of Saint Candida Maria De Jesus.
