Dear Sisters, Hijas de Jesús, and lay people:
At Christmas these words of the prophet are fulfilled: “You shall praise the Lord, your God, who has done wonders for you; you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and my people shall not be disappointed. I am the Lord your God, and there is no other, and my people will not be disappointed” (Joel 2, 26b-27).
We celebrate the great miracle of the Word made flesh (Jn 1, 14). God camps among us and becomes itinerant with us. We share this joy. Our hope is not disappointed.
We always need the Lord. There are many and varied circumstances in our lives in which we ask him strongly: Come, Lord! Come quickly!
We have not emerged from a pandemic that has affected the whole world. We are now in the midst of other pains and other wars. May we be more aware of the terrible conditions in which the life of so many people in different countries and also the life of the planet is going on. Because we have experienced ourselves as poor, needy, fragile at one time or many times, we can understand it better, we can feel it vividly, even when others suffer.
We want to praise the Lord of history in this time that He gives us. We want to discover Him “newly incarnate” [EE 109] in our intemperance and nights, to wrap Him in poor swaddling clothes and to offer Him a manger in our lives. To be a sign of a God who cares for each of his children, especially if they suffer. As God comes, let us go also to those who are displaced. May our faith be that living, constant, eternal faith of which M. Candida spoke. Candida spoke of, because in Him we have everything (Meditation I, 13).
May the love that God has shown us in Jesus, flesh of our flesh, and poured into our hearts (Rom. 5, 5), make us artisans of harmony and peace. Let us cooperate in small, everyday things to make our world more liveable and just for all.
Merry Christmas: let us confirm that our hope is not disappointed.
