Opening of the GCXVIII

April 23, 2019

A new light is projected into the past and animates the present in the life of Christians. The Resurrection, both for them and for us today, is to live again without fear, is to receive the strength of the Holy Spirit, open the doors and announce the Good News. It is having new eyes and knowing that HE is in our midst.

A General Congregation is always an hour of grace, an opportunity for a new approach to the Father’s plan, and aims to help new pages of fidelity to the call to be Daughters of Jesus to be written in our history.

With these words, we began the opening Eucharist of GC XVIII, presided by Antonio Guillén, SJ., the 35 “congregadas” accompanied by the sisters in the curia. Thus we began this special time in the light of the Resurrection.

After the Eucharist, at the first session, we read some articles of the CFI and CND, in addition to the Rules of the GC, and after which, we were given the names of all those present. After this, the Superior General declared that the General Congregation is full and legitimate and remains open.

In this session, Mª Inez Furtado de Mendonça addressed a few words to the Assembly urging the sisters to fully stimulate the fidelity and love that God gives us at every moment. He recalled the path that began a year ago and in which the entire congregation has been preparing for this moment, and in which we have been asking ourselves: To what do you call us now, Lord?

As the GC has already begun, we ask to be open to the voice of the Spirit, knowing that we have Mary as the Star of our Way and that Mother Candida and so many Daughters of Jesus who have gone before us, intercede for us in this congregational moment.
