Pearls hidden in the letters of Mother Candida

July 16, 2021

One of the treasures that M. Cándida left us is her letters. In these family and spontaneous communications, we discover, in the midst of everyday affairs, their way of being and their experience of God. Teresa Lucía, FI approached us in the early 80s and so we could read first hand how God reveals Himself to the simple and in the simple.

Antonio Grau, along with other laypeople and some Daughters of Jesus of Spain, wanting to deepen and share the spirituality of M. Cándida, began to approach them in 2003. When they delved into the Letters they discovered authentic “pearls” that reveal their rich personality and the charisma or “grace” received.

In November 2008, Antonio Grau, then director of the school of the Daughters of Jesus in Murcia, takes up these “pearls”, rereads them from his life, and begins to publish them on September 3, 2012.  Week after week, for 11 years, Antonio makes a shared prayer of the pearl he discovers in each letter.

The publication of the “Pearls hidden in the letters of Mother Cándida” was a thank you to this work of Antonio, so rich in content and so sustained over time, with the desire that it encourages those who read them to continue delving into the rich legacy that Saint Cándida Mª de Jesús has left us in her life and in her writings.

In the books, each “pearl” is accompanied by a verse from God’s Word and Antonio’s commentary referring to the gospel of the Sunday in which he wrote. May this work brings us closer to the two sources from which its author has drunk, the gospel and the Letters of the Founding Mother, and help us discover the God who is also acting in our lives.

On January 21, 2021, on the occasion of the jubilee year for the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Congregation, the provincial of Spain-Italy interviewed Antonio to talk about these “pearls”. You can see the Presentation of the “Pearls hidden in the letters of Mother Cándida” again.
