World Day of Consecrated Life 2022

January 29, 2022

CALLED, AS A CONSECRATED LIFE, TO BE SYNODAL CHURCH

Today, February 2, the feast of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, the Church also celebrates the Day of Consecrated Life.

We celebrate our feast this day because Jesus is the Consecrated of the Father par excellence, the one who has come into the world to do his will.

This Day is an opportunity for Christians to give thanks to God for this way of life in the Church, which is a gift, with the diversity of its charisms; an opportunity to encourage the People of God to know and love the lives of so many men and women who have given themselves to the service of others in the style of Jesus; and,  of course, so that consecrated persons themselves may be grateful for our lives, God’s fidelity to us every day and may become more aware of our particular mission in the Church and in the world.

Cardinal João Braz de Aviz, prefect of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, and Monsignor José Rodríguez Carballo, the secretary of that dicastery, write us a letter on the occasion of this XXVI World Day of Consecrated Life and encourage us to reflect on participation, in full connection with the synodal journey in which we are inserted.

The Synod asks us a question that it considers fundamental:

In a synodal Church, which proclaims the Gospel, everyone “walks together”: How is this “walking together in one’s own particular Church” carried out today? What steps does the Spirit invite us to take to grow in our “walking together”?

With her, they are inviting us to recover the good experiences we have of “walking together” so that, re-read in-depth and in the light of the Spirit, they illuminate the path that God wants to make with us.

For this synodality to become a reality, we all need to put into operation capabilities that we had which had been a little asleep.

Cardinal João Braz de Aviz and Monsignor José Rodríguez Carballo encourage us to participate so that no one is left out, that none of us feel that “this is not for me.”

Graciela, our Superior General, invited us to participate in the Synod and today, on the Day of Consecrated Life, the Church does so again. Let us not be left behind in this challenge of listening, sharing, and discerning to discover God’s will for the people of God of which we are part. Let’s create spaces for dialogue and listening… and let the Holy Spirit be the protagonist of our history.

Let us make visible, from the daily life of our communities, the universal fraternity to which our world is called. Let us be the Good News, let us not be content to say it in words.
