Our sister Carmen L\u00f3pez Arjona FI, from the community of Galicia (Spain), has just been awarded the Fundaci\u00f3n Secretariado Gitano 2016 Individual Award, for a lifetime of commitment dedicated to promoting the advancement of Roma people and improving their conditions of life. The prize will be given on February 23 at 7:00 pm in an event to be held in Madrid at the Manuel de Falla Hall of the “Sociedad General de Autores” (SGAE).
The Fundaci\u00f3n Secretariado Gitano Awards highlight the social, cultural or human work of people, work teams, entities or institutions of national or international scope related to progress in the social inclusion and welfare of Roma people, responding to the values and lines of work promoted by the Fundaci\u00f3n Secretariado Gitano.
An external jury of the Fundaci\u00f3n Secretariado Gitano – formed by Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Vera, director of Interm\u00f3n Oxfam Espa\u00f1a; Mar\u00eda Gonz\u00e1lez, director of Porticus Iberia; Luis Monge, Director of CSR at Banco Santander; Natalia Basterrechea, public affairs officer of Facebook Spain and Portugal; Mara Torres, writer, journalist and presenter of La2 News from RTVE; Pitingo, musician; and Valent\u00edn Su\u00e1rez, Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Fundaci\u00f3n Secretariado Gitano – has been in charge of the decision in this edition of the Awards.
The winners of this edition have been:
– “Solidaridad con G”, collective modality: Amnesty International Europe, for its decisive and effective defense of the human rights of the Roma population in Europe.
– “Solidaridad con G”, individual modality: Carmen L\u00f3pez Arjona, for a lifetime of commitment dedicated to promoting the advancement of Roma people and improving their living conditions.
– “Comunica \u2018Con Conciencia\u2019”, Pilar T\u00e1vora, for her great contribution in the audiovisual media to make visible the reality of Roma people away from topics and stereotypes, showing their heterogeneity and cultural wealth.
– “Empresa Transformadora”: Gestamp, for being a pioneer in opening to the Roma population a sector that offers youth a choice of quality work and a decent life alternative.
– “Educaci\u00f3n es Futuro”: CEIP [Colegio de Educaci\u00f3n Infantil y Primaria – Primary and Secondary School] Mar\u00eda Sanz de Sautuola de Santander, for its special attention to the diversity, quality and impact of its educational program and the promotion of coexistence.
– “Pere Gim\u00e9nez Pubill, T\u00edo Peret”: Manuel Heredia, for his commitment and impetus to the gypsy associative movement in Catalonia and his leadership capacity as a reference for gypsy and non-gypsy people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
