On February 14th, in her circular letter No. 15, our Superior General communicated to us the closure of our presence in \u00a0Montevideo, Uruguay because although it is news of the province of Andean America, \u00a0it affects the whole \u00a0Body.<\/p>\n

We have asked the \u00a0Daughters of Jesus who have been there to tell us something of what these 10 years have been.<\/p>\n

We arrived in Uruguay on February 16, 2010.<\/em> Two<\/em> Jesuits<\/em> were waiting<\/em>\u00a0for us there: Juan Jos\u00e9 <\/em>Mosca and Marcelo Amaro.<\/em> From<\/em> the Tres Cruces terminal,<\/em> we head<\/em> towards<\/em>\u00a0the <\/em>\u00a0\u00a0Sagrada Familia parish house located <\/em>in Luis Alberto de Herrera street, next\u00a0<\/em>to<\/em> the Manresa spirituality house, <\/em>\u00a0where\u00a0<\/em>we\u00a0stayed<\/em>\u00a0until June 16 <\/em>of that\u00a0<\/em>same<\/em>\u00a0year<\/em>\u00a0since<\/em> from that date<\/em> we began<\/em> to rent<\/em>\u00a0a<\/em> small<\/em>\u00a0house\u00a0<\/em>near<\/em> the parish Of St. Ignatius and the Colegio San Ignacio-Isasa,<\/em><\/strong> \u00a0since much\u00a0<\/em>of <\/em><\/strong>our pastoral life was developed there.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

We went to Uruguay with the\u00a0<\/em>aim<\/em>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>working<\/em>\u00a0in<\/em>\u00a0collaboration<\/em>\u00a0with the <\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Jesuits in<\/em>\u00a0the\u00a0youth<\/em><\/strong> ministry.<\/em><\/strong> \u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0This\u00a0<\/em>goal<\/em>\u00a0had<\/em>\u00a0a<\/em> lot of<\/em>\u00a0evangelical\"\" fertility.<\/em> We work<\/em> collaboratively<\/em>\u00a0in<\/em>\u00a0different<\/em>\u00a0fields: Parroquia \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0San Ignacio, Colegio San Ignacio-Isasa, The \u00a0Ignatian Youth Network, the diocesan Youth<\/em> Ministry <\/em>since we<\/em>\u00a0had\u00a0<\/em>the opportunity to\u00a0share <\/em>the Spiritual<\/em> Exercises<\/em> with young people from different parish through the <\/em>young Church<\/em>\u00a0of Montevideo, the\u00a0<\/em>communities<\/em> of the Christian life,\u00a0 personal accompaniment to\u00a0<\/em>young people, etc. <\/em>Our house gradually became\u00a0a <\/em>reference place<\/em>\u00a0for <\/em>young people, which<\/em>\u00a0challenges<\/em>\u00a0us<\/em> to make our<\/em>\u00a0house\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>a <\/em>place where young people would make an experience of the \u00a0“Come<\/em>\u00a0and see”.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 This<\/em>\u00a0led<\/em>\u00a0us<\/em>\u00a0to<\/em> offer weekend\u00a0retreats.<\/em> \u00a0Celina Garcia, current\u00a0<\/em>junior sister, lived\u00a0<\/em>in our<\/em> house for\u00a0<\/em>six<\/em>\u00a0months<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/em>then<\/em>\u00a0a <\/em>\u00a0French<\/em>\u00a0volunteer<\/em>\u00a0lived<\/em>\u00a0for<\/em>\u00a0a <\/em>\u00a0year.<\/em> In<\/em>\u00a0addition<\/em><\/strong> from 2012 to the end of 2014,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>this presence<\/em>\u00a0was<\/em>\u00a0a <\/em><\/strong>\u00a0house of formation, <\/em><\/strong>postulant stage.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

We have<\/em>\u00a0accompanied\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>many<\/em>\u00a0young<\/em>\u00a0people\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>in their vocational discernment.<\/em><\/strong> \u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0What gave\u00a0<\/em>us<\/em>\u00a0back<\/em>\u00a0and<\/em>\u00a0returns young\u00a0<\/em>people<\/em>\u00a0is that\u00a0<\/em>we\u00a0<\/em>are<\/em>\u00a0a <\/em>\u00a0different,<\/em> more\u00a0open,\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0closer religious<\/em>\u00a0life<\/em> presence, with the\u00a0<\/em>ability<\/em> to see<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/em>hear<\/em>\u00a0the needs\u00a0<\/em>that\u00a0<\/em>arise and<\/em>\u00a0be\u00a0<\/em>responsive, <\/em>\u00a0dynamic, <\/em>\u00a0creative.<\/em><\/p>\n

That goal<\/em>\u00a0was\u00a0<\/em>maintained<\/em>\u00a0during<\/em>\u00a0these<\/em> \u00a011 <\/em>\u00a0years<\/em>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/em>presence.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"\"While that was our<\/em>\u00a0goal<\/em>\u00a0we<\/em> did not know<\/em>\u00a0that<\/em> \u00a0God\u00a0<\/em>had <\/em><\/strong>us set<\/em>\u00a0aside<\/em>\u00a0a<\/em><\/strong> \u00a0second\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>goal<\/em>\u00a0our<\/em>\u00a0presence<\/em>\u00a0among the poorest.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 This<\/em>\u00a0is\u00a0<\/em>concrete<\/em>\u00a0through\u00a0<\/em>work<\/em>\u00a0in <\/em>\u00a0Faith<\/em>\u00a0and<\/em><\/strong> \u00a0Joy in\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>different<\/em>\u00a0centers<\/em>\u00a0of<\/em>\u00a0critical\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>contexts,<\/em><\/strong> \u00a0marginalization,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>and<\/em><\/strong> vulnerability.<\/em><\/strong> \u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0In<\/em> \u00a0Fe y <\/em>\u00a0Alegr\u00eda<\/em>\u00a0we<\/em>\u00a0were<\/em>\u00a0present<\/em>\u00a0from 2010 <\/em>to early<\/em> \u00a02019.<\/em> From<\/em><\/strong> \u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\u00a02019 until<\/em>\u00a0today the <\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Lord<\/em>\u00a0showed<\/em>\u00a0us<\/em><\/strong> that this\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>goal<\/em>\u00a0had<\/em><\/strong> a new face “migrants”,<\/em><\/strong> many of them living on the streets of Montevideo, <\/em>\u00a0others<\/em>\u00a0in<\/em>\u00a0state shelters,<\/em> \u00a0etc.<\/em> \u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Uruguay has been<\/em>\u00a0a <\/em><\/strong>\u00a0presence<\/em>\u00a0with two\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>faces: <\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Young\u00a0<\/em>and<\/em>\u00a0poor.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Why this<\/strong>\u00a0closure?<\/strong> To explain it, Graciela collects the words of the Provincial Superior, \u00a0H. Dayse\u00a0 Agretti, \u00a0when she communicated it to her province.<\/p>\n

By different circumstances and already on occasion we had considered as a \u00a0congregation the continuity or not of our presence in \u00a0Montevideo. Between the end of last year and this year,\u00a0 our Superior \u00a0General betting on continuity, considering the pastoral wealth that the place provides and that tunes with our apostolic calls, \u00a0sent two sisters \u00a0– from other provinces- and with the right profile for the project with young people. \u00a0<\/p>\n

… The global situation of the pandemic significantly altered our lives and plans, \u00a0coupled with health situations. \u00a0\u00a0These real facts that life offered us, \u00a0made us reflect as the provincial government and placed us in dynamics of discernment in the face of this situation: The circumstances of times and people incline us to think that we cannot sustain our presence there.<\/p>\n

The Superior General, \u00a0with the data \u00a0I \u00a0have presented to her and after considering it with her government, has decided to close the community of Montevideo and therefore leave Uruguay.<\/p>\n

We <\/em>appreciate, says Graciela at the end, \u00a0the 10 <\/em>\u00a0years<\/em>\u00a0we\u00a0<\/em>have<\/em>\u00a0been<\/em>\u00a0present<\/em>\u00a0as<\/em> \u00a0Daughters<\/em>\u00a0of Jesus\u00a0<\/em>in<\/em>\u00a0that\u00a0<\/em>country, and\u00a0<\/em>the<\/em> vocation that that country<\/em>\u00a0has given<\/em>\u00a0us\u00a0<\/em>in<\/em> the junior<\/em>\u00a0,\u00a0Celina Garc\u00eda, and\u00a0<\/em>also<\/em>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/em>different<\/em> \u00a0Daughters<\/em> of Jesus who\u00a0<\/em>have<\/em>\u00a0passed<\/em>\u00a0through\u00a0<\/em>that<\/em>\u00a0community. The\u00a0<\/em>exits<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/em>closures<\/em>\u00a0are<\/em>\u00a0always<\/em>\u00a0some<\/em>\u00a0pain. I <\/em>\u00a0invite<\/em>\u00a0you\u00a0<\/em>to<\/em>\u00a0live<\/em>\u00a0from\u00a0<\/em>gratitude<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/em>hope<\/em>\u00a0that\u00a0<\/em>the<\/em> \u00a0Lord makes<\/em>\u00a0things\u00a0<\/em>new.<\/em><\/p>\n

The\u00a0sisters<\/strong>\u00a0who\u00a0<\/strong>were<\/strong>\u00a0assigned\u00a0to Uruguay have<\/strong> been sent to their provinces of origin, \u00a0where they will go as permitted by the current limitations of mobility between countries.<\/p>\n

Mar\u00eda del Carmen Jim\u00e9nez Correa<\/strong><\/em>: she\u00a0<\/strong>was waiting for the possibility, which did not arrive, to travel to Uruguay. At the moment she is sent, for a time, to the General Curia to work on the international animation of the Call for the Apostolic Action of “young people” together with Councillor \u00a0Teresa Li, who is in charge of this field.<\/p>\n

Ana\u00a0Ma <\/strong><\/em>Baeza,<\/strong><\/em> \u00a0who is already in\u00a0 Rome, \u00a0serving as secretary of the \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0General Government, \u00a0has now been entrusted with the mission of local Superior of the \u00a0Curia.<\/p>\n

It ends by encouraging \u00a0us \u00a0to \u00a0pray \u00a0for \u00a0these \u00a0sisters and \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0each \u00a0other:<\/p>\n
