Voices from the Peripheries: A Look at the Care Networks of the Daughters of Jesus

Oct 5, 2026 | Andean America, Argentina, Care Networks, CG XIX, Featured, General government

The 19th General Congregation expressed the desire to build networks of care, grounded in an awareness of our sonship, and to be present, with hope, on the peripheries where life is most fragile.

To promote this priority, a team was formed, as announced by our Superior General, Graciela Francovig, in her circular letter No. 55; “To bring social, geographic, and existential boundaries to life, we initially thought of key figures from each province so that, together with Councilor Emelinda Falsis, they could reflect, offer encouragement, and shed light on the reality of these boundaries within the Congregation. Later, it seemed better to form a ‘team,’ since they are functioning as such in practice. These sisters are: Antonieta Hernández (AA), Rose Mary Wang (AO), Francisca Mejía (B-C), Pilar Brufal (E-A), Pilar de la Puerta (E-A), and Lorna Bonghanoy (I-P).” “

A Source of Hope in the Outskirts

As part of this reflection, today we launch “Voices from the Peripheries,” which stems from a conviction: care is already alive among us. It is expressed in communities, ministries, initiatives for Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation, and in everyday gestures that often go unnoticed.

We are daughters, and this awareness of our daughterhood reminds us that we depend on one another and on all of creation. From this perspective, we want to weave networks of care that express our commitment to our common home and to our brothers and sisters. We feel a special calling toward those who live in a culture of discarding, including migrants, refugees, and displaced persons. We are inspired by *Laudato si’* and *Fratelli tutti*, which call for personal, communal, and institutional conversion.

We want to be where life is most fragile—on the geographical, social, and existential peripheries. There, as Daughters of Jesus, we contribute our “mustard seed” according to the strength we have at each moment of our lives. These are places where we can embody the presence of Christ and where care networks can be concrete signs of hope. Det CGXIX, nos. 23 and 24.

What are we hoping to achieve with this initiative?

  • Identify and support existing care networks.
  • Make them visible using simple communication tools, so that the sisters recognize themselves as part of a larger movement.
  • To appreciate the daily, often quiet presence among those who need it most.
  • Encourage participation and foster connections between communities so that experiences, resources, and best practices can circulate freely.

Voices from the Peripheries: The Series Begins

Today we are sharing the first in a series of short videos in which, through presentations by sisters, testimonies, and concrete acts of care, one community will be featured each month, allowing us to learn more about its mission and its reality.

We’re sharing the first video in this series, which takes us to Córdoba, Argentina, to learn about the Daughters of Jesus’ involvement in the “Mama Antula” project:

We invite you to watch it, share it, and let these voices touch your heart. As the purpose of this initiative reminds us, wherever life is most fragile, God is waiting for us.
