On July 22, 2025, the feast of St. Mary Magdalene, the community of Inhambane, Mozambique, lived with joy and gratitude the transmission of the Determination of the XIX General Congregation. In an atmosphere of prayer, listening and communion, the sisters welcomed this new call of the Spirit as a compass that orients the heart and renews the mission.
During the day, words that resonated strongly in all of us emerged: co-responsibility, audacity, filiation and hope. The Determination was received as a new “Word of God”, an invitation to be born again and to live the filial conversion that impels us to strengthen communication, to weave bonds of fraternity and to make a journey with others.
As one sister expressed, “convinced that the best we can offer to the world is our being daughters and sisters, we feel that this Determination provokes us, inspires us and opens the way for us”.
The community also shared the joy of rediscovering in Letter No. 221 of Mother Candida the echo of the same desire that animates the Congregation today: “I wish to be called Daughters of Jesus”. Words that, upon rereading them, feel alive and current, as a call to recreate our being from the charism of M. Candida, seeking together and in the same way, the charism of the Daughters of Jesus. Candida’s charism, searching together and with others, the paths that the Spirit points out to us.
No. 21 of the Determination, on “Encouraging life with others,” was especially significant for the sisters, who received it as a horizon of hope and commitment for the new sexennium. With confidence in God the Father, who cares for all, the Daughters of Jesus of Mozambique join this congregational movement of renewal and sending forth, with the desire to be women of the living Gospel, bearers of joy and witnesses to the love that transforms.
Determination in the Universal Congregation
This publication is the culmination of our web tour of the transmission of the GC XIX Determination in all the communities of the Congregation. A journey that has allowed us to recognize what unites us as Daughters of Jesus in the world, as one of our followers expressed in social networks: “We are united as Daughters of Jesus in the world. This news shows how the spirit of the charism left by Mother Candida transcends cultural and geographical boundaries. Although these communities are very different, they all live a profound unity around the same call: to be a family in faith”.
Throughout these weeks, we have shared experiences, resonances and gestures that confirm our common identity and the deep desire that unites us: to be Daughters of Jesus. The journey continues. We continue to deepen our Determination, allowing ourselves to be guided by the Spirit, recreating our being, encouraging life and seeking together – and with others – how to give more life in the heart of the world.
