The General Government of the Hijas de Jesus for the next six-year term is complete.
The elected as General Counselors were Sisters:
- 1st Counselor: Emelinda Falsis Correa
- 2nd Counselor: María Rosa Espinosa Calvo
- 3rd Counselor: Iris Altagracia Gonzalez Ventura
- 4th Counselor: Magda Zhang Xiao
“We give thanks to God who loves us so much,” and the sisters to serve and help Graciela Francovig as Superior General. From now on, we pray for them.
The election took place this Saturday morning, May 3.
It helps us remember what our Constitutions of the Hijas de Jesus say about this very essential service, to help the Superior General.
- As for organizing and resolving matters of importance which occur, the Congregation will place with her [the Superior General] four General Counselors, with whom she can share her work and responsibility, who will assist her and whose office it will be to look after the universal affairs of the Congregation itself.
- The election of the Counselors will correspond to the same members who elect the Superior General, when they gather for this purpose. General
- They shall be persons of discretion and prudence, marked by their love for the Congregation and the common good, by their obedience, knowledge of the Constitutions, and the way of proceeding in conformity with the Institute; of clear and upright understanding, instructed in teaching and other works proper to the Hijas de Jesus. In all their actions, they will show charity and humility towards the Sisters, but especially towards the Superior General, with whom they will show reverence and love, conforming their judgment to what she decides.
- The Counselors may be entrusted with the care of various things of the Congregation so that they may understand them better, make special prayer, see what could help more in that field to achieve what is intended according to our Institute, and present to the Superior General what seems to them to be appropriate, after having examined it well.
They will also take care, with the same care and attention, of whatever else she may wish to entrust to them. And in general, they will help her with everything that involves looking into and dealing with matters of different kinds that require more consideration. [CFI 286-289]
This concludes the election stage of this GC XIX, which, under the motto “With Him, pathway of hope,” invites us to remain closely united to Jesus, in communion with all the sisters gathered and desiring to continue walking in hope.
The General Congregation XIX is now continuing with treating the “matters” phase. Let us continue to accompany them with our closeness and prayer.
