Pentecost is always an invitation to return to the origin, to the moment when the Spirit was poured out on the disciples, enkindling their hearts, opening their eyes and sending them out into the world as courageous witnesses of the Gospel.
Congregated and sent
In recent months, the Daughters of Jesus have also lived moments of strong experience of the Spirit, as was the time of discernment in General Congregation XIX. A General Congregation is, as the name itself says, a time when the Daughters of Jesus come together, we gather to listen together to the Spirit, to discern what God dreams for the Congregation and for the world.
But all this has a meaning in what happens afterwards, when each member returns to her Province carrying with her some of the fire she has experienced, the light she has received and the breath she has shared. Like the disciples after Pentecost, the Daughters of Jesus Congregation is a body united and at the same time dispersed in mission, carrying in our hands and in our hearts that flame lit to continue animating, accompanying and making the Good News present in every place where we are sent.
Pentecost, a time for change and hope
Pentecost reminds us that it is not the time to stand still. It is time to let ourselves be transformed and transform our environment. That is why we want to share a song that inspires us to live this time with courage and hope.
It is part of the CD “La audacia del corazón” that was recorded for the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the congregation, December 8, 1871, and you can find it in the resources section of our website, along with the other beautiful songs that were composed at that time.
The lyrics go like this:
🎶 CHANGE 🎶
I’ll trade you a sad day
for one full of sunshine,
I’ll trade you cold winters
for a little warmth,
I’ll trade you broken dreams
for a ray of hope
that will make you get up
and sing your heart out.
(Change)
There will be no more injustice,
let’s change the whole world,
let’s make it a home for all
where fear no longer exists.
Let’s believe that it is possible
to give the world a smile,
let’s create a future
where we take care of life.
(Change) The whole world
(Change) is too small
(Change) for my desires.
What shall we do with ours?
(Change) I alone nothing,
(Change) but with you I can.
(Change) If we go together
we’ll go far.
Your dreams and illusions, your courage and your courage,
your steps always firm, the strength within you,
remain flag
that announces the hope
of a world that moves,
that walks and moves forward.
(Change)
Today is the time again,
we are the engine of change,
let’s release illusions,
today the world is waiting.
Today my heart tells me
“be brave”, “put yourself on the line”,
there are no excuses,
is the time to create a new time.
(Change) The whole world
(Change) is too small
(Change) for my desires.
What shall we do with ours?
(Change) I alone nothing,
(Change) but with you I can.
(Change) If we go together
we’ll go far.
Believe… Believe… CHANGE!
Dispersed in mission, united in Spirit
As we celebrate Pentecost we feel called to change the big and the small, to build and to rebuild, to put light where there is darkness and to bring hope where everything is broken.
The Spirit renews us and makes everything change, even in the same circumstances… What do you need the Spirit to renew and change in your life? What changes do you witness the Spirit encouraging in people close to you?
May this Pentecost find us scattered in mission and united in the same Spirit, encouraging life, especially where it is threatened and sustaining the flame that is not extinguished.
