An urgent invitation from the UISG
The International Union of Superiors General (UISG) is calling for a world day of prayer and fasting for peace on August 14, 2025, on the eve of the feast of the Assumption of Mary (August 15). In a world torn apart by war and dehumanization – in Gaza, Sudan, Ukraine, Myanmar, Syria, Haiti, the Democratic Republic of Congo and elsewhere – “we cannot remain silent spectators”.
Joining this call
Joining this call, Graciela Francovig, Superior General of the Daughters of Jesus and vice-president of the UISG, together with sisters from each community of the Argentine Region of the Daughters of Jesus, invite us to join this day through a video in which they express, with one voice, their commitment to peace and their desire to walk together in prayer, fasting and solidarity.
Concrete actions proposed
The UISG suggests three essential actions for that day:
- Promote moments of prayer and reflection on the Word of God in our communities, confronting current sufferings and allowing for inner transformation.
- Engage with civil and church authorities, urging them to open paths of reconciliation, disarmament, protection of human rights and support for victims.
- Supporting concrete solidarity, collaborating with networks of humanitarian aid, welcoming and prophetic defense of the most affected peoples
Prayer of the UISG to accompany the journey
This is the prayer, prepared by the UISG to accompany this moment, invites us to entrust ourselves to the intercession of Mary, Mother of Peace.
Mary, Mother of Peace,
in this time wounded by war,
we entrust to you the peoples torn by hatred,
the families divided, the hearts broken by violence. You who have kept silent the pain,
teach us to be vigilant, not to close our eyes,
to remain close to those who suffer,
to pray even when words are lacking.Give peace to the world, Lord Jesus,
not that which is imposed by force,
but that which is born of justice,
of forgiveness, of truth, of love.Make us instruments of your peace:
hands that lift up,
voices that comfort,
hearts that open.We pray for women and children who are victims of conflicts,
for migrants on the run, for those who are prisoners of fear.
We pray for those who have lost hope
and for those who continue to sow hatred.May our fasting become solidarity,
may our prayer become action,
may our silence become a voice for the voiceless.Mary, Queen of Peace,
intercede for us,
so that the light of the Gospel may shine again in every corner of the earth
.Amen.
Let’s add our voice
Let us add our voices and hearts this August 14, 2025, by living a day of prayer, fasting and solidarity. Inspired by the intercession of Our Lady of Peace, let us ask for the grace to be humble and prophetic instruments in building peace, justice and communion in a wounded world.
