DOMUND 2026: One Hundred Years of Shared Mission

Oct 17, 2026 | Hijas de Jesús, News, Social Justice, Society

On October 18, the Church celebrates DOMUND, and this year it does so for a special reason: this year marks the 100th anniversary of this observance. With the theme “One in Christ, United in Mission,” we invite you to learn about it, pray for it, and live it out using the resources prepared by the Pontifical Mission Societies.

What is DOMUND?

World Mission Sunday (DOMUND) is the day on which the entire Church prays for missionaries and supports their work. It is organized by the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) and is celebrated each year on the second-to-last Sunday in October.

This is a day to remember that mission is the responsibility of all the baptized: it is lived out through prayer, through solidarity, and also through concrete support for those who proclaim the Gospel in places where the Church is younger or more fragile. You can learn more about the initiative at domund.es.

Pope Leo XIV’s Message for DOMUND

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of DOMUND, Pope Leo XIV addresses the entire Church with his message for World Mission Sunday. We invite you to listen to it before celebrating this day:

If you’d rather read it, you can find the full text of the message here on the Vatican’s website.

DOMUND 2026 Resources

To mark this day and Missionary October, we’re sharing some of the available resources:

Song “Send Me”

The DOMUND 2026 song sets to music the desire to answer the call: “Here I am, send me.” It’s a great way to pray as a community, in the classroom, or in a youth group.

Mission from the Peripheries.

During this Month of Missions, we, the Daughters of Jesus , have launched an initiative that resonates with the spirit of DOMUND: “Voices from the Peripheries,” a series of short videos in which, each month, a community opens the doors of its mission to us.

As Daughters of Jesus, we feel called to be a presence and a source of hope on the peripheries of the world, alongside those who live on the geographical and existential peripheries. These are not merely places or social situations, but spaces where we can embody the living presence of Christ. Where life is most fragile, God awaits us, and that is where we are sent as well.

One hundred years of DOMUND remind us that mission work is not the responsibility of just a few, but of all baptized people. It is lived out through prayer, proclamation, and closeness to those who need it most—whether in a distant mission territory or on the outskirts of our own community.

We invite you to pray with the song “Send Me,” to share these resources with your group, school, or parish, to support the missions through domund.es, and to watch the first video in the series. As this year’s theme says, we are “One in Christ, united in mission.”
