It is a gift of Providence to live this preparation of GC XIX in such a fruitful ecclesial time, at the time of the opening of the Jubilee “Pilgrims of Hope”. On December 24, 2024, Pope Francis will symbolically open it at 7:00 p.m. with the rite of opening the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica. He will then preside at the celebration of Holy Mass on the evening of the Nativity of the Lord.
“We must keep alight the flame of hope that has been given to us, and do all we can to restore to everyone the strength and certainty to look to the future with an open mind, a trusting heart and a broad outlook. The forthcoming Jubilee can do much to restore a climate of hope and confidence, as a sign of a new renaissance that we all perceive as urgent. That is why I chose the motto Pilgrims of Hope. All this will be possible if we are able to recover the sense of universal fraternity, if we do not close our eyes to the tragedy of rampant poverty that prevents millions of men, women, young people and children from living in a humanly dignified way.”
