Letter No. 49 of the Superior General: Let our hearts become compassionate.

Oct 22, 2025 | General government, News

The Superior General of the Daughters of Jesus, Graciela Francovig, has once again communicated with all the sisters of the Congregation through her Letter No. 49, in memory of the canonization of St. Candida M.ª de Jesús.

It begins by sharing that:

“It is a joy to be in contact with you at the beginning of our second six-year term and to share the life we are beginning to live as General Government. As I told you in my previous letter, at the end of August, the five sisters who make up the General Government met together. And, beginning in September, we began our journey as a government”.

United for world peace

Also at the beginning of his missive he invites us to join so many people around the world who advocate for peace, and he says:

“Today we pray a lot for peace in our world, especially for those countries that are at war, and also for those who suffer from all kinds of violence and natural disasters. How can we help ourselves to believe that peace is a gift of God that must be accepted in our hearts so that we can bring it to others? Let us be bearers of peace in our communities, families, workplaces and countries. We implore God that this gift that has been given to us may not fall into closed hearts, but may bear fruit in hearts that desire the good of humanity”.

Jubilee of Consecrated Life

Finally, he shares more about the General Government’s experience of the Jubilee of Consecrated Life:

“Last week, from the 8th to the 11th, was the time for consecrated life, organized by two dicasteries. We had the opportunity to participate as the General Government and other Daughters of Jesus from the Curia and Spain. Prayer vigil, Eucharist with the Holy Father, dynamics on hope and peace, artistic expressions, experiences of commitment for peace and gestures of hope in different parts of the world accompanied us during these days. So many voices, so many expressions and words still resonate in us as they were said to us. Cardinal Angel Fernandez Artime, proprefect of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, left us, at the end of one of the Eucharists, the call to trust and hope with regard to the future of consecrated life, with a louder sound than those voices of misfortune with regard to the future. How many consecrated life in the whole world! How many of us there are and how much we do! Our presence alone is already a sign of hope for a world that is searching, that desires to find more life in its environment”….

Let our heart become compassionate

He concluded his letter with a strong invitation to compassion, on the 15th anniversary of the canonization of Mother Candida.

“I end my letter with a paragraph from Pope Leo XIV’s encyclical Delexi te, on love for the poor: “Christian holiness often flourishes in the most forgotten and wounded places of humanity. The poorest of the poor – those who lack not only goods, but also a voice and recognition of their dignity – occupy a special place in the heart of God. They are the favorites of the Gospel, the heirs of the Kingdom (Lk. 6:20). It is in them that Christ continues to suffer and to rise. It is in them that the Church rediscovers the call to show her most authentic reality”. (Dilexi te, n.º 76)

On this day in which we remember the official declaration of the sainthood of our foundress, inspired by her life and by this concrete call of the Church, let us allow our hearts to become compassionate towards all kinds of poverty that we find around us.
