Visits of the Superior General (Letter 39)

Nov 21, 2024 | East Asia, Hijas de Jesús, News, Thailand

During the month of September, accompanied by two counselors, I visited the sisters of the Continent. Undoubtedly, a grace of the Lord in this service. We were able to meet with all of them, to get to know the three communities where we are present today and to have, at the end of the visit, a meeting with them.

Concerns and challenges arise, desires to go to some places and others. The work with the youth is very well done and other pastoral work and ways of carrying it out, which made me see the diversity that we have in the Body.

I thanked the Lord for seeing how our presence there is being consolidated and, at the same time, the missionary desires of this universal Body are being consolidated.

The visit to the Thai community was an opportunity to be in direct contact with the refugees from Myanmar, which Thailand is hosting. Life there is under great threat. It is difficult to look to the future when they have been in such situations for decades. But the Jesuit Refugee Service, in which our sisters work, does a work of true humanization and care for people, helping to sustain hope. When one sees, touches, listens and feels the reality, it is impossible not to be moved by the suffering of our brothers and sisters, but also by the marvelous work done by the Daughters of Jesus. There are only three of them and yet they sustain life day by day. Thank you, dear sisters, for making the Congregation present there and for your dedication to our brothers in need!
