A new school year has begun in some parts of the world. With it, the Jesuit Educational Foundation, which brings together 24 schools in Spain, has presented the motto that will accompany the entire educational community during this time: “Open to the world”.
As Mother Candida Family, we echo this proposal, which does not remain only in an academic calendar, but also resonates as a horizon of hope for life. Because living open to the world means educating and educating ourselves in an ethic of care: of people, of relationships and of all creation.
A three-year journey
This motto is part of a three-year itinerary in which the great educational objective is being worked on: “To foster in the educational community the care for life in order to make it grow in all its dimensions”.
- Walk with meaning (course 2023-24) invited us to self-care.
- Contigo soy (course 2024-25) helped us to grow in the care of relationships.
- Open to the world (course 2025-26) now takes us to the care of all creation.
Music
This year’s goal is accompanied by the song “El mundo es pequeño para mis deseos” (The world is small for my desires). Composed by Manu Escudero, singer-songwriter and teacher at the Miralba school in Vigo, it was created for Juanitatxo – The Musical. We can enjoy this cheerful and meaningful song, which accompanies this beautiful video with scenes that tell us about the life of schools.
An invitation to all
Although the school year does not start at the same time in all parts of the world, this motto can inspire the entire Mother Candida Family everywhere.
It encourages us to broaden our vision, to recognize the richness of diversity, to commit ourselves to justice and sustainability, and to educate and grow “more human than ever”.
On the website of the Jesuit Educational Foundation, the songs and resources that accompany this proposal are available, knowing that they can help many people to live with greater depth and openness.
May “Open to the world” not only be a motto for a course, but a way of being and living in community, in dialogue and in shared mission; a horizon of hope for all.
