Mother Candida

Juana Josefa, Juanitatxo, loved her family, spoke fondly of her parents, sisters and grandparents; she loved her land, the high green mountains of Andoain, her hometown, its rivers of fresh and clean water, the wild flowers that grow on its banks.

She feels deeply loved by Jesus, God made man, whom she lives as Father, whose Spirit she desires. Sensitive to everything that happens, she wants to be for God alone, to do his will in everything. Every step she takes, every decision she makes until the age of 24 (when she clearly hears the call to found the Congregation) is moved by this desire: “To do what God wills and only what God wills”.

Mary, under the invocation of the Immaculate Conception, was Mother and Counselor, Star and Confidant, the “true foundress of the Congregation,” as she would say. She had a filial love for her. She consulted the Virgin with every important decision.

She loved the Church, the poor, the Daughters of Jesus and her students. She loved the people with whom she had relationships; the Sabater family, with whom she worked as a servant from a young age; Father Herranz, her confessor and a great help in the beginnings of the Congregation.

He loved the everyday and the simple. He loved everything in Christ.

Mother Candida loved God so much in word and deed that she died “very peacefully” because she could not remember a moment of her life that had not been for Him.
