One Year on the Road: Gratitude to the General Government

May 1, 2026 | Featured, General government

On May 1, we joyfully celebrated the first anniversary of the election of the Superior General, our sister Graciela Francovig. Two days later, on May 3, her councilors, Emelinda Falsis, Rosa M. Espinosa, Iris Altagracia González and Magda, whom we all know, were elected, thus constituting the General Government of the Daughters of Jesus for the 2025-2031 sexennium.

Meeting on this first anniversary of the General Government gives us a good moment to pause, look at the road we have traveled and, above all, express our gratitude for the generous availability and the “yes” of these sisters who have assumed the mission of guiding and animating our Congregational body.

A time of sowing and internal organization

For a General Government, the first year is usually a time of “landing” and structuring. Although the desire to meet the different local realities is great, this time has been marked by intense work from Rome. Because of the residency procedures, the councilors have experienced this period as a providential opportunity to deepen their understanding of the issues that will mark the planning of the coming years.

This has been a time of fruitful and silent activity. Among the tasks that have occupied his day to day, the following stand out:

Accompaniment and discernment: The ordinary treatment of the affairs of the provinces and the accompaniment of each place in the spiritual reception of the GC XIX Determination.

Formation and in-depth study: Reflection on urgent issues in the life of the Church, especially with regard to the culture of care. This study seeks not only theory, but the creation of a Code of Ethics that will help us to live our charism with greater coherence.

Boosting international teams: Working together with the Formation, Youth and Vocation Ministry teams, and the commissions in charge of deepening the sense of our affiliation and networks of care and peripheries.

Every council meeting, every study of the Constitutions and every administrative decision is, in the end, an act of service so that the mission of Mother Candida may continue to be alive and up to date in every corner where we are present.

A shared mission in a network

The daily life of the General Government is also a life of communion with the universal Church. Its participation in the UISG (International Union of Superiors General), especially as vice-president under the leadership of our Superior General, Graciela Francovig, reminds us that we are part of a large network that does good throughout the world, often “quietly” but withtotal dedication.

An invitation to the Mother Candida Family

As we celebrate this first year, we would like to invite the entire Mother Candida Family to unite in prayer for them.

Let us be grateful for his life and his vocation of service.

Pray for wisdom and discretion for their discernments and strength for the administrative and spiritual challenges they face.

Let us walk together, knowing that their work of animation strengthens us all as a body.

May Mary continue to inspire your dedication and may the joy of service be your greatest reward.

Thank you, Sisters, for this first year of general government, in a spirit of guidance, service and dedication!
